In Divining Boundaries: Clicking a Pen I set out to harness the mundane
and often rhythmically repetitive action of clicking a pen to produce a mark.
(This application is very logically derived from the function of a pen.)
I attempt to remove my will from the task, letting the clicking motion
move the pen (much like the way one is supposed to surrender
one’s will and movements to a Ouija board).
I click the pen over a map of North America to give the mark a context.
By channeling a mark from this mundane action and then empowering that mark
by re-contextualizing it as a political border I am able to mystify the initial action.
