Eclipse: Never View The Sun With The Naked Eye

Lamp, hat, hat rack, walls, 2012.
Part of Familiar Machines collaboration with Scott Stibich.

A hat hangs on its rack while a spotlight illuminates it. Behind the curtain, the light, eclipsed by the hat, shines through pinhole in the wall and onto a small screen in the dark room. The image created mimics what one sees when using a pinhole projector to observe a solar eclipse, the hat acting as moon, and the lamp as the sun.
